This is a pre-start post just to ensure that the site has some content even from day one. With 8 weeks to go before I start out I increasingly find myself looking at my feet and talking to them as though they were separate entities – mostly I’m apologising to them for what I’m about to put them through.
I should also take this early opportunity to thank Vince from NIDirect, not only has he designed and built this website he has also nursed me through setting up a linked Facebook page and integrated the donation service and he won’t accept a penny for his labour. I’m really pleased with the work he’s done, though making my hike effort so public is a service I may come to resent mightily as I begin to look for plausible reasons for not completing the challenge.
At least one more pre-emptive thank-you is required; my wife Fern. Not only has she taken on a lot of the administrative burden around arranging accommodation and the necessary ferrying about that is part of this expedition, but as I tramp around the country feeling alternately smug and sorry for myself she will be keeping things going back at home, including walking the dog.
